Revanesse® Lips™ is a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler used to enhance the appearance of lips. It is a non-surgical option for lip augmentation, and enhances volume and plumpness.

The filler formula is crosslinked with butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE). Crosslinking is the process of chemically joining two or more molecules to create a network. To minimize sensitivity to pain during the injection, the filler also contains lidocaine.

How The Filler Works

The gel filler is injected into the lips using an ultrafine needle. Revanesse® Lips™ is approved for adults 22 years of age or older.

Results last about six months. A clinical study found that 65% of patients rated themselves as much improved or very much improved at six months after injection.

How to Prepare For Treatment

A Plaza Aesthetics skin specialist will begin by explaining the procedure and the potential risks of Revanesse® Lips™. He or she will then ask the patient questions about their health, medical history, and medications currently being taken. Patients are encouraged to ask questions about the procedure and share any concerns before undergoing treatment.

What to Expect During Treatment

The medical professional will begin by cleansing the patient’s lips and make the necessary injections. Patients may experience tenderness or a stinging sensation in the treatment area, but shouldn’t feel any pain. The entire procedure can take between 15 and 30 minutes.

What To Do After Treatment

Patients should apply a cold compress or ice pack to the treatment area to minimize bruising or swelling. They may also massage their lips with constant pressure for a few minutes.

Who Shouldn’t Receive Revanesse® Lips™ Treatment?

The filler isn’t recommended for patients with:

  • Severe allergies to filler ingredients
  • A history of multiple severe allergies
  • A heightened immune responses to common allergens
  • An allergy to natural rubber latex, hyaluronic acid products, and/or streptococcal proteins
  • Plans to undergo administration of graded doses of allergens during filler treatment
  • A history of hypersensitivity to lidocaine
  • A history of bleeding disorders, hypertrophic scarring, or keloid formation
  • Scars at the intended treatment site
  • Acne and/or inflammatory illnesses of the skin, such as rosacea, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis
  • A cold sore in the lips
  • Acute or chronic skin disease

Revanesse® Lips™ is also not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing. The filler should never be used in conjunction with laser treatment, intense pulsed light, dermabrasion, chemical peeling, or any other procedure based on an active dermal response, such as over-the-counter (OTC) wrinkle products or prescription wrinkle treatments within four weeks of filler treatment. Doing so could increase the risk of inflammation at the treatment site.

Potential Side Effects

If treatment is performed by an inexperienced injector, the filler could be injected into a blood vessel, potentially leading to vision abnormalities, temporary scars, and permanent scarring of the skin. If the patient experiences pain, swelling, and redness that persists for one week or more after treatment, the doctor should be notified immediately. Other rare risks of Revanesse® Lips™ include infection, acne-like eruptions, hyperpigmentation, skin hypersensitivity, and nerve damage.
