What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite is deposits of subcutaneous fat within fibrous connective tissue (as in the thighs, hips, and buttocks) that create a puckered and dimpled appearance on the skin’s surface.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is a multi-pronged problem. Women are told fibrous bands run from the surface of the skin to muscle through the fat. When the bands pull downward on the skin, the fat is pushed upward. But the factors are more complex.

Hormonal factors also influence the development of cellulite. Genetics, skin texture, body type, weight, and muscle tone are all factors that play a role in forming cellulite.

Cellulite can be caused by cumulative sun damage, body fat, skin laxity, and loss of skin thickness.

Women are more likely to develop cellulite, since women’s fat is typically located in the thighs, hips, and buttocks. The risk of developing cellulite also increases with age, when the skin loses elasticity.

Though weight gain can make cellulite more noticeable, lean people can also have cellulite. An inactive lifestyle and pregnancy both increase the risk of developing cellulite.

Treating Cellulite

Though topical treatments may help reduce the visibility of cellulite, results are usually temporary. Creams work by tightening the skin and adding moisture. This helps to make the skin appear smoother and firmer and reduces the appearance of cellulite.

However, the creams don’t remove cellulite. Instead, they hide its appearance. Products may contain caffeine or retinol. For lasting results, patients should consider undergoing EMTONE treatment.

How EMTONE Works

EMTONE simultaneously emits both radiofrequency and targeted pressure energy, creating a synergistic effect that neither treatment can achieve on its own.

Simultaneous emission or radiofrequency waves and targeted pressure energy leads to significantly higher impact on connective tissue than consecutive application of both treatments.

How Long Does An EMTONE Treatment Last?

Each patient will receive a personalized treatment plan tailored to their aesthetic goals. Most patients undergo four treatments, over the course of two to four weeks. One session typically takes about 20 minutes, depending on the treated area.

What Does An EMTONE Treatment Feel Like?

EMTONE technology provides simultaneous delivery of thermal and mechanical energy. Treatment may feel like a hot stone massage with intense mechanical vibrations. Patients will be in a relaxing lying-down position during treatment.

How Soon Will I See Results?

Patients will begin to feel tangible results immediately after treatment, with positive results usually reported two to four weeks after the last session. Results will continue to improve for several weeks following the treatments.

Patients have seen improvements after a single treatment session, with results typically continuing to improve over the next few months. Treatment doesn’t require any downtime, and patients may resume normal activity immediately after treatment.
